What a day on horseback at Logie Newton looks like

The tracks are really well kept and great underfoot - just perfect for walk, trot and canter. Really great for hill fitness, too - my poor wee horsey was rather sweaty by the end of our hack but we loved it. There are miles and miles of grassy tracks to explore and you get great views of Bennachie and its fine summits from various angles. You might spot some deer, and who knows, the odd farmer going about his business! There's a chance to practice going through water, too, with a wee burn to cross although you can go over the bridge if you prefer. Absolutely brilliant for horses and riders, whether you fancy a gentle plod or a more energy-fuelled blast! Highly recommended! A beautiful setting with stunning views!

A word from host Louise
Sharing my childhood playground
Growing up on this farmland was an utter joy. But it wasn’t until I moved to Edinburgh for University that I realised how lucky I was hacking in wide open spaces and with hilltop views that only I could see.
It was something so special that I knew it had to be shared.
And in 2024, my lifelong dream was realised when we welcomed our first guests to our luxury lodges and opened our land to equestrian enthusiasts (people just like me) for hosted farm rides.
Our guests call the tracks “epic” and I’m so glad they think so. Because I’ve ridden them my whole life and they still take my breath away.
It’s horse riding as you want it to be in the fresh air and with amazing views. We also think it’s a rare opportunity to get a feel for what a stay on our farm would be like with our thought-of-everything equestrian facilities.

We have four organised farm rides a year: two in spring and two in autumn. Ythan Riding Club co-host one ride each season, and while each season varies a little depending on the terrain, you usually have a choice of:
Logie Newton Tracks Ride
This is a relaxed route that can be as short or as long as you like. You’ll love this option if you or your horse prefer a steady pace or if you’re after a day out really appreciating where you are.
Logie Newton Tracks and Woodland Ride
This longer 6.5km route takes you through forestry and into fields with various steep hills, which is perfect for testing stamina. Your horse (and you) will love the workout, and the contrast between the woodland shade and open-field tracks is a real highlight.
